Automation for the Future: A Biogas Plant as a Regional Success Story

The Wolfshagen biogas plant operated by BALANCE Erneuerbare Energien GmbH has been one of the region’s most important energy projects for years. Biogas is produced in two high-fermenters and fed into the regional gas grid in the form of biomethane. At the same time, a biogas-powered CHP unit supplies heat to households, businesses, and public facilities in the area through combined heat and power generation.
This creates a local energy supply that demonstrates how independent, regional energy generation can work today. Its significance was recently highlighted in a report by the German news program Tagesschau.

Our Engineering Expertise

As part of the technical modernization, we implemented:

  • sensor technology
  • MSR cabinet and switchgear
  • control technology
  • visualization
  • long-term data archiving
  • integration of heat meters

We continue to support the plant today with modernization, expansion, and adjustments during ongoing operations.

Looking Ahead

The Wolfshagen biogas plant shows how regional energy production and modern automation technology can successfully work together.
The automation we implemented enables efficient, climate-friendly, and future-proof operation. As a result, the plant has become a flagship example of sustainable energy supply in rural areas.
